Two GC Music Ph.D. Students Awarded Dissertation Writing Fellowships

The Graduate Center music program is pleased to share that two of our music Ph.D. students have won prestigious external writing fellowships to complete their dissertations. Ethnomusicology student Brian Bond has been awarded a Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship from the Woodrow Wilson Foundation to complete his dissertation, “A Heavy Rain Has Fallen Upon My People: Sindhi Sufi Poetry Performance, Ethics, and Islamic Reform in Kachchh, Gujarat.” The fellowship is awarded to scholars completing an “original and significant study of ethical or religious values.” Musicology student Elizabeth Newton has been awarded a Mellon/ACLS Dissertation Completion Fellowship toward her dissertation, “Lo-fi Recordings and the Reproduction of Affect, 1988-1996.” Congratulations to both!
