The Baisley Powell Elebash Fund Committee welcomes applications from Music Department doctoral students pursuing research (including practice-based research such as performances). While all quality research proposals will be considered, priority is to be given to research pertaining to New York City (broadly defined as anywhere in the five boroughs or Greater NYC area) that seriously engages the sociocultural and/or political context of the greater NYC area in some significant way. The Committee awards two types of grants:
- Large Grants. These are awarded to students with an approved dissertation proposal and who will not be receiving a GCF during the tenure of the grant. This scholarship consists of a $10,000 lump sum with no restrictions (but please see below).
- Project Grants. Smaller grants for travel, research, performances, equipment, etc. Grants will be $5000 or less (please see below for tax information). These are available for students at any stage of their doctoral study conducting written and practice-based research.
Students may reapply for Elebash grants, but preference will be given to new applicants. Large grants can only be awarded once. Project grants cannot be received in any two consecutive years.
