2025 Society for Ethnomusicology Conference News
The Graduate Center Music Department’s participation at the Annual Society for Ethnomusicology conference, held in Atlanta, was very strong! Eight students presented papers (Juliana Catanin, Julia Santoli, Danielle Bonaiuto, Stephanie George, Carlos Cuestas, Maurice Restrepo, Kelsey Milian-Lopez, Romulo Moraes Barbosa, and Rubens de la Corte) alongside two professors (Dr. Anaar Desai-Stephens and Dr. Agustina Checa). In addition, Anaar received the Richard Waterman Junior Scholar Prize for her article “The Infrastructure of Engagement: Musical Aesthetics and the Rise of YouTube in India.” The prize is given by the Popular Music Section of SEM for the best article on popular music by a junior scholar.
