Professors Tania León and Suzanne Farrin’s Commissions to be Performed by NY Phil on March 12-17

Congratulations to Distinguished Professor Emerita Tania León and Professor Suzanne Farrin, who have each been commissioned to orchestrate a variation of Rzewski’s The People United Will Never Be Defeated to be performed by the New York Philharmonic (led by Gustavo Dudamel) on March 12, 13, 14 and 17, as part of “US at 250” to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States.

The World Premiere of the new orchestration of Frederic Rzewski’s The People United Will Never Be Defeated is a New York Philharmonic Commission, and the variations orchestrated by composers include those by: Kati Agócs, Marcos Balter, Enrico Chapela, Anthony Cheung, Suzanne Farrin, Brittany J. Green, Felipe Lara, Tania León, Andrew Norman, Arturo Márquez, Maria Schneider, Nina Shekhar, Roberto Sierra, Conrad Tao, Jerod Impichcha̱achaaha’ Tate, Joel Thompson, Wang Lu, and Nina C. Young.
